Minutes of Executive Committee Meeting
Col. William E. Weber Chapter 142, KWVA
April 2, 2019

In Attendance: Commander Becker, Secretary Wienhoff, Treasurer Mount, Chipley, Rinehart and Fox
Unable to Attend: Vice Commander Eader, Kephart, Malavenda, Cody and Murphy

Commander Becker called the meeting to order at 11:40 am.

Minutes of the March 5, 2019 meeting were presented by Secretary Wienhoff and were approved on motion by Mount and second by Chipley.

Treasurer's report was presented by Treasurer Mount consisting of Balance Sheet for March 31, 2019 and Income and Expense report for March 2019. After review, the report was approved on motion by Chipley, second by Rinehart.

The following matters were discussed:

Commander Becker reported that he, Eader, Chipley and Wienhoff rendered a final salute for James Wedberg on March 29, 2019 in response to a request from his widow Malla. James was a Member of National KWVA.

The Commander noted that the donation to the Scholarship Fund had been made at the March membership meeting.

Chipley reported the change in venue to the AMVETS Post 2 location for the Picnic on September 14th and the cost quoted by the Ladies who provide the food service is $18.50 per person.

A motion to adjourn was made by Fox, second Chipley and the meeting adjourned at 12 Noon.

Minutes of Member Meeting
Col. William E. Weber Chapter 142, KWVA
April 10, 2019

Commander Becker called the meeting to order at 2:30 pm.

The meeting was opened with a prayer by Chaplain Rinehart followed by the Pledge of Allegiance to the flag.

Minutes of the March 13, 2019 meeting were read by Acting Secretary Chipley who recorded the March Minutes and were approved on motion by Col. Weber and second by Fox.

Treasurer's report was presented by Treasurer Mount consisting of balance sheet for March 31, 2019 and income and expense report for March 2019. The report was approved on motion by Chipley and second Col. Weber.

Welfare Chairman Rinehart reported no activity since the last meeting.

The following matters were discussed:

  • Commander Becker reported that a Final Salute was rendered to National at large member James Wedberg at the request of his widow Malla on March 29th at the Pumphrey Funeral Home in Bethesda. Members participating were Becker, Eader, Chipley and Wienhoff. Mr. Wedberg had been a Foreign Service Officer and travelled extensively around the world.
  • Chipley reported that we will have our Annual Picnic on September 14, 2019 indoors at the AMVETS Post 2 home on South Street. Members chose fried chicken and ham for the event and the cost per person to attend was set at $15 per person. Sign up flyer will be in the Summer Chapter Newsletter with reservations due by August 15th.
  • Wienhoff commented on the upcoming Field of Honor event which will provide a display of 600 flags dedicated to veterans and first responders at a field alongside St. Ignatius Church in Ijamsville. Flags will be posted over the Memorial Day weekend from Saturday, May 25th through the dedication ceremony which will be held on Memorial Day, May 27th. A concert by the Rohrsville Band will be held at 7:30 pm on Sunday, May 26th.
  • Commander Becker asked for member input on a survey regarding proposed National KWVA cost cutting measures because of declining membership. There was general approval of the cost cutting measures and a lengthy discussion ensued regarding member recruitment, especially Korean Defense veterans.
  • Col. Weber reported that he is now Chairman Emeritus of the Korean War Memorial Foundation and that General John H. Tilelli, USA -Ret., who served in the 8th Army in Korea is now Chairman.

New Business:

Treasurer Mount reported that a Volunteer Appreciation Luncheon was being held on May 24th at Citizens/Montevue. Our Veterans Appreciation Fund at the facility is low and recommended that we provide a donation of $1,000 which is budgeted and does not require a vote. Members agreed the donation should be made.

50/50 was won by Rodney Hall.

Motion was made by Chipley, second by Rinehart to adjourn the meeting and the meeting was closed with a salute to the flag at 3:16 pm.
