Minutes of Executive Committee Meeting
Col. William E. Weber Chapter 142, KWVA
October 3, 2017

In Attendance: Commander Mount, Vice Commander Becker, Secretary Wienhoff, Treasurer Eader, Chipley, Fox, Rinehart, Malavenda Kephart and Cody
Unable to Attend: Murphy

Commander Mount called the meeting to order at 11:35 am.

Minutes of the September 5, 2017 meeting were presented by Secretary Wienhoff and were approved on a motion by Eader, second by Chipley.

The Treasurer’s Report consisting of the Balance Sheet for September 30, 2017, Income and Expense Report for September 2017 and Actual Income and Expense vs. Budget for the Period 1/1/17 - 9/30/17 was presented by Treasurer Eader. After review, the report was approved by a motion of Rinehart, second by Malavenda.

Treasurer Eader asked Welfare Chairman Rinehart to send a get well card to Jim Joy.

Commander Mount reviewed the following items:

Our Chapter picnic went well and most comments have been favorable. Some thought the chicken strips were not up to Dutch’s standard. BG Pyo and his wife were guests.

We had a good turnout for the Vietnam Veterans POW/MIA ceremony. Thanks to all who attended.

Col. Weber attended the KWVA National Convention held in Norfolk, VA and represented the Memorial Foundation and our Chapter.

On October 5th we are providing a Color Guard for the Middletown High School Volley Ball Game.

The Brunswick Parade is on November 5th. Four convertibles and the truck should be available. We will gather at Roy Rogers Restaurant and leave promptly at 1 pm to take our place in the parade route.

There will be a Veterans Celebration on November 9th at the Monteview Dining room at 8:30 am. Plan is to have a seat for one of us available at each table so we can sit with the veterans.

On November 11 there will be a formal ceremony at the Tomb of the Unknown Amphitheater for which KWVA has been allotted 180 seats. We have decided to only attend the Amphitheater portion of the events of the day. A bus will take us from the Urbana Park and Ride to the visitor center from which we will use the shuttle service to the amphitheater. Departure time will be at 6:45 am. Space has been requested for Mount, Wienhoff, Eader, Becker and wife, Chipley, Murphy, Fox and wife, Malavenda, Cody, Kephart and Miller. Let Commander know if you want to attend.

Col. Weber has designed a "410" program involving placing some 100 collection jars at businesses and other venues around Frederick County to collect funds for the Wall of Remembrance. Program will be announced on Veterans Day. Commander Mount explained the organization that the program would require and no one volunteered to chair the program.

The Chapter Christmas Party is planned for December 13, 2017 at 12 noon. The menu is salad, Dutch’s chicken, honey glazed salmon, twice baked potatoes, vegetables, drinks and wine will be served at dinner. The cost to members and guests is $25 per person. A musical group is being sought for entertainment.

Minutes of Member Meeting
Col. William E. Weber Chapter 142, KWVA
October 11, 2017

Commander Mount called the meeting to order at 2:30 pm.

Chaplain Rinehart offered the opening prayer and the members pledged allegiance to the flag.

Minutes of the September 13, 2017 meeting were read by Secretary Wienhoff and, after noting several needed corrections, were approved by motion of Malavenda, second by Eader.

The Treasurer’s report was presented by Treasurer Eader consisting of the Balance Sheet and Income and Expense for September 2017. After review, the report was approved by motion of Malavenda, second by Rinehart.

Welfare Chairman Reinhart sent get well cards to Rosemarie Boore and Jim Joy. A card was requested to be sent to John Wisner who is at Citizens Nursing Home. Commander Mount stated that if anyone knows of someone who should receive a card, call Gene.

Commander Mount reported on the following matters:

  • Col. Weber attended the National Convention and represented the Monument Foundation as well as our Chapter. Col. Weber commented that only 200 members attended.
  • We provided a Color Guard for a Middletown High School Volley Ball game and fundraiser for the Wall of Remembrance on October 5th. Check will be presented in the future. Pizza was provided and a bag of candy was presented to each of us and all the players came by and shook our hands. Coach Jamie Pryor arranged the event and retired CMS Niko from Ft. Detrick directed our activity for the event.
  • The Brunswick Parade will be held on November 5, 2017. We will gather at the Roy Roger’s Restaurant and leave promptly at 1pm to take our place in the parade route.
  • There will be a Veteran Day event at Citizens Nursing Home on November 9th. Event details have not been provided.
  • There will be a Veterans Celebration breakfast at Monteview dining room at 8:45 am on November 9th. Request has been made to leave a seat vacant at each table so we can sit with the veterans.
  • On Nov. 11 there will be a Ceremony in the Amphitheater at the Tomb of the Unknown. KWVA is the host organization this year and has been allocated 180 seats. Space has been requested for Mount, Wienhoff, Eader, Becker and wife, Chipley, Murphy, Malavenda, Cody, Kephart, Fox and wife and Miller. Bus will leave Urbana Park and ride at 6:30 am.
  • There will be a Veterans History Program Event at Dutch’s Daughter Restaurant on November 18 at 11:30 am. We will not be providing the Color Guard and lunch is free to Chapter members and wives.

Old Business:

  • Col. Weber reported there will be a guest column in the Frederick News Post on 11/11/17 concerning the Wall of Remembrance and indicate 20 jars for donations will be placed in cooperating businesses by Chapter 142 members to solicit donations. Commander reported matter was discussed at Executive Committee Meeting and no one came forward to take charge of program.

New Business: none

Wienhoff won the 50/50 and donated his share back to the Chapter.

The meeting was adjourned at 3:15 pm with a salute to the flag.
