Minutes of Executive Committee Meeting
Col. William E. Weber Chapter 142, KWVA
July 3, 2018

In Attendance: Commander Becker, Vice Commander Easder, Treasurer Mount, Chipley, Rinehart, Malavenda, Cody, Murphy, Kephart and Fox
Unable to Attend: Secretary Wienhoff
Member Attending: Robert Flores

Commander Becker called the meeting to order at 11:30 am.

Minutes of June 5. 2018 Meeting were presented by acting secretary Chipley and were approved on a motion by Eader and second by Mount.

The treasurer's report consisting of balance sheet for June 30, 2018 and income and expense report for June 2018 were distributed and reviewed. The report was approved on a motion by Malavenda and second by Fox.

The following upcoming events were discussed:

All reports indicated the car show was a big success and we looked good. except for when Cody fell and cut his lip. We collected $52.00 in donations. Glenn's daughter Rose was a tremendous help and a card of thanks will be sent to her.

Ken Davis was in the hospital last week but is now home.

Everyone was reminded of the Crestwood Village July 4th parade. Be there by 0930 in summer dress.

Annual picnic is tentatively scheduled for Sept 15 at Dutch"s Daughter.

The Christmas luncheon is scheduled for Dec. 12 at Dutch's Daughter.

FSK Post 11 is having a luncheon for their members who are Korean War Veterans on July 27, 1130-1300

Commander Becker went to the Frederick News Post and gave them a news release on Hannah Kim and requested a reporter be present at our July 21 event.

The Korean American Community Association of Howard County has invited all Korean War Veterans who served in Korea 6/25/50-7/27/53 to an Appreciation luncheon on July 22 at 12 noon-3pm

Rocky Ridge Volunteer Fire Co. has asked us to participate in their parade on Aug 15. Eader said Priscilla had called him and extended an invitation for dinner at 5pm

Bob Mount commented that we have an unusual situation, one for which there is no precedence, concerning the event taking place on 7/21. At this wreath laying we will have two special guests, Hannah Kim (confirmed in writing) and the First lady of Maryland, Mrs. Yumi Hogan, (confirmed verbally). A luncheon honoring these guest is planned but we have no budget for this event and so I offer the following motion - I move that $600 be allocated for the purpose of funding a luncheon at which our committee members and wives can honor and entertain our special guests. The motion was seconded by Chipley and passed with one dissenting vote.

Chipley reported we will get 35 parking permits and the city will put them up on Friday July 20

Chipley stated that Chaplain (LTC) Carol Van Schenkhof. USA. Ret. will give the Invocation and Benediction at our 7/21 event.

Cleanup at Memorial on July 17 after our meeting and walk thru practice on July 20 at 3pm

Meeting adjourned at 12:30pm on a motion by Fox, second by Mount.

Minutes of Member Meeting

July 11, 2018

Commander Becker called the meeting to order at 2:30 pm.

Chaplain Rinehart offered the opening prayer which was followed by the pledged allegiance to the flag.

Minutes of the June 13, 2018 meeting were read by Secretary Wienhoff and were approved on a motion by Chipley, second by Malavenda.

The Treasurerís Report consisting of the Balance Sheet for June 30, 2018 and Income and Expense Report for June 2018 was presented by Treasurer Mount. The report was approved by a motion of Malavenda, second by Col. Weber.

Welfare Chairman Rinehart reported a get well card was sent to Ken Davis.

The following upcoming events were discussed:

  • Members participated in the Golden Gears Car Club Veterans Recognition event on June 30, 2018 at the Lewistown Fire Company Hall. The venue has changed from the previous Home Run Car Show at Harry Grove Stadium to a car show and bingo at the Lewistown Fire Company Hall. The Chapter members provided a presentation of Colors and an information tent at the car show and assistance at the bingo.
  • Hannah Kim will be visiting the Korean War Memorial in Frederick on July 21, 2018. Commander Becker personally contacted the Frederick News Post and provided publicity for the event. Cleaning of the monument and area around the monument will take place after next Tuesday's lunch and final check at 3 pm on July 20.
  • Seven Chapter members in two convertibles participated in the Crestwood parade on July 4, 2018.
  • FSK Post 11 is hosting a lunch honoring Korean War Veterans on July 27, 2018. Reservations due on July 20th.
  • A letter was received from the local Boy Scouts asking for donations for a planned cabin at the Walkersville watershed. Since it is not a military organization we are precluded from donating.
  • Chipley reported the Ft. Detrick retiree's council was informed of the Hannah Kim event on July 21.
  • The Rocky Ridge Parade will be held on August 15th and Priscilla and Richard have invited us to dinner at their home at 5pm.
  • The Libertytown Parade is on August 9th if any members want to participate.
  • There will be a reading of POW/MIA names at our DC Memorial on August 14th if anyone can participate.
  • The Chapter picnic will be at Dutch's Daughter Restaurant on September 25th and the Christmas Luncheon is scheduled for December 12th.
