Minutes of Executive Committee Meeting
Col. William E. Weber Chapter 142, KWVA
July 5, 2017

In Attendance: Commander Mount, Secretary Wienhoff, Chipley, Fox, Rinehart and Cody
Unable to Attend: Vice Commander Becker, Treasurer Eader, Malavenda, Kephart and Murphy

Commander Mount called the meeting to order at 11:35 am.

Minutes of the June 6, 2017 meeting were presented by Secretary Wienhoff and were approved on a motion by Cody, second by Chipley.

The Treasurerís Report consisting of the Balance Sheet for June 30, 2017 and Income and Expense Report for June 2017 and Actual Income and Expense versus Budget for the six months ended June 30, 2017 was presented by Commander Mount in the absence of Treasurer Eader. After review, the report was approved by a motion of Chipley, second by Fox.

Commander Mount reviewed the following items:

On June 30th, Glenn, Fred and Wendell attended the wreath laying by President Moon of the Republic of Korea and Vice President Pence of the USA. Due to medical reasons Commander Mount did not make the trip. Purple Heart recipient Wendell Murphy was greeted by President Moon and Vice President Pence.

On July 10 the Frederick Department of Aging will present a Veteransí Recognition and Resource Day. There will be a lot of information of interest to Veterans. Lunch is available for $5. Judge Rolle is the featured speaker and there will be entertainment. The event starts at 9, lunch is at 12 and the event is scheduled to end at 2 pm. The Commander and Bob Eader will erect our pop up display.

There will be a guest speaker from Maryland relay at our July 12th meeting who will tell us about free services available for those who cannot hear well on the phone.

On July 26 the Army Twilight Tattoo at Fort Myers salutes Korean War Veterans. The reception at Fort Myers officers club at 5 pm has been cancelled but the Twilight Tattoo at Whipple Field, Ft. Myers at 6:30 pm will be held.

On June 23rd at 9 am there will be a Korean War Veterans Memorial Foundation and Korean Embassy will conduct a Memorial Ceremony at the KWV Memorial in Washington followed by a lunch at the Ambassadorís Residence. The Embassy will provide a bus. Eight members have signed up to go.

There will be a wreath laying ceremony by our Chapter at the Frederick Korean War Memorial on July 27 at 10:00 am.

There will be a guest speaker from Maryland relay at our July 12th meeting who will tell us about free services available for those who cannot hear well on the phone.

There will be a wreath laying ceremony at the Korean War Memorial on July 27 at 10:00 am. A bus will be provided if a group of us wants to attend.

The Rocky Ridge Parade is on Wednesday, August 16th at 7 pm and we will need vehicles for our participation. We need to register for our space by August 5th.

Our Chapter picnic will be held at Dutchís Daughter restaurant this year starting at noon September 16th. Fee will be $15 with picnic food on the menu. Reservation form is in the July Newsletter.

The KWVA National Convention is being held in Norfolk, VA on October 4 - 8. Information on attending is in the Graybeards or the KWVA website if you wish to attend.

The KWVA will be the honored unit at the Veterans Day Ceremony at Arlington Cemetery on November 11, 2017. There will be 180 seats at the Amphitheatre reserved for Korean War Veterans and there will be a reception at the Women in Military Museum after the Ceremony and at 4 pm there will be a wreath laying ceremony at the Korean War Memorial. A bus will be available. Space has been requested for Mount, Wienhoff, Eader, Becker, Chipley, Murphy, Fox, Rinehart, Malavenda, Cody, Kephart and Miller.

The Chapter Christmas Party is planned for December 13, 2017.

Minutes of Member Meeting
Col. William E. Weber Chapter 142, KWVA
July 12, 2017

Commander Mount called the meeting to order at 2:35 pm.

Chaplain Rinehart offered the opening prayer and the members pledged allegiance to the flag.

The Commander suspended the regular order of business for a speaker from Maryland Relay. Bob Eader introduced Ms. Aza Johnson, Public Relations Representative from Maryland Relay who spoke about the many devices which are available to assist those who have difficulty being able to use a normal telephone and what benefits such as Social Security and VA benefits which can qualify an individual for free assistance. Her talk was very informative and helpful to the members in attendance.

Minutes of the June 14, 2017 meeting were read by Secretary Wienhoff and were approved by motion of Fox, second by Miller.

The Treasurerís report was presented by Treasurer Eader consisting of the Balance Sheet and Income and Expense for June 2017. After review, the report was approved by motion of Becker, second by Rinehart.

Welfare Chairman Reinhart was asked to send a sympathy card to Tony Malavenda on the death of his daughter. Commander Mount stated that if anyone knows of someone who should receive a card, call Gene.

Commander Mount reported on the following matters:

  • On June 30th Wienhoff, Becker and Murphy attended the wreath laying by President Moon of Korea and Vice President Pence of the US. Commander Mount could not attend due to medical reasons.
  • On July 10 Bob Eader and Commander Mount attended a Frederick County Department of aging Veterans Recognition and Resource Day. A speaker was obtained for our August 9 meeting. She is Sherri Wright of OPTIONS for Seniors and will tell us of the many services available to help us as we age.

Upcoming Events:

  • On July 26 there will be an Army Twilight Tattoo saluting Korean War Veterans at Whipple Field at Ft. Myers at 6:30 pm.
  • On July 27th there will be a Wreath Laying Event at the Frederick Monument at 10 am.
  • On July 28 Legion Post 11 will have a Korean War Veterans recognition day luncheon. Be there at 11:15am in Class A uniform.
  • The Rocky Ridge Parade is on Wednesday, August 16th at 7 pm. Priscilla will host a dinner at 5pm. Fred, Reggie, Glenn and Wendellís truck will be available. Registration will be sent.
  • The Chapter 142 Picnic will be held indoors this year at Dutchís Daughter Restaurant on September 16 at noon. Details and a reservation form are in the July - September Newsletter. Picnic fare will be served. Cost is $15 per person.
  • October 4 - 8 are the dates of the National Convention being held in Norfolk, Virginia. Look in Graybeards or the National website for full details.
  • On Nov 11 there will be a Ceremony in the Amphitheater at the Tomb of Unknown at Arlington Cemetery and a reception following at Women in Military History Museum and subsequent wreath laying at our DC Memorial. Bus will be provided. KWVA is the host organization this year. Space has been requested for Mount, Wienhoff, Eader, Becker, Chipley, Murphy, Rinehart, Malavenda, Cody, Kephart, Fox and Miller.
  • There will be a Rally in the Valley at the Frederick Fairgrounds sponsored by Platoon 22 on October 21, 2017. Is there any interest in having an information table at a cost of $15?

Old Business:

  • Treasurer Eader reported 18 have signed up to date for the picnic.

Bill Fox won the 50/50 and donated his share back to the chapter

The meeting was adjourned at 4:05 pm with a salute to the flag.
