Minutes of Executive Committee Meeting
Col. William E. Weber Chapter 142, KWVA
August 1, 2017

In Attendance: Commander Mount, Vice Commander Becker, Secretary Wienhoff, Treasurer Eader, Chipley, Fox, Rinehart, Malavenda and Cody
Unable to Attend: Kephart and Murphy

Commander Mount called the meeting to order at 11:35 am.

Minutes of the July 5, 2017 meeting were presented by Secretary Wienhoff and were approved on a motion by Malavenda, second by Rinehart.

The Treasurer’s Report consisting of the Balance Sheet for July 31, 2017 and Income and Expense Report for July 2017 was presented by Treasurer Eader with an explanation of each income and expense item. The report was approved by a motion of Fox, second by Malavenda.

Commander Mount reviewed the following items:

There will be a guest speaker, Sherry Wright from Options for Senior America at our August 9th Meeting.

The wreath laying ceremony by our Chapter at the Frederick Korean War Memorial on July 27 went well. Eleven Chapter members and Chip Chipley’s son attended the event.

The Legion Post 11 Lunch on July 28th went well and two potential members were asked to attend our next meeting. Col. Weber spoke about how a small contribution by individuals would finance the Wall of Remembrance.

The Rocky Ridge Parade is on Wednesday, August 16th at 7 pm. The commander will confirm if Priscilla will host a pre parade dinner as has been the case in the past.

Our Chapter picnic will be held at Dutch’s Daughter restaurant this year starting at noon September 16th. Fee will be $15 with picnic food on the menu. Reservation form is in the July Newsletter.

The KWVA National Convention is being held in Norfolk, VA on October 4 - 8. Information on attending is in the Graybeards or the KWVA website if you wish to attend. Invitations to Embassy personnel and Yumi Hogan were discussed and the Commander will follow up.

The KWVA will be the honored unit at the Veterans Day Ceremony at Arlington Cemetery on November 11, 2017. There will be 180 seats at the Amphitheatre reserved for Korean War Veterans and there will be a reception at the Women in Military Museum after the Ceremony and at 4 pm there will be a wreath laying ceremony at the Korean War Memorial. A bus will be available. Space has been requested for Mount, Wienhoff, Eader, Becker, Chipley, Murphy, Fox, Rinehart, Malavenda, Cody, Kephart and Miller. Three wives may attend.

The Chapter Christmas Party is planned for December 13, 2017.

There being no further business to discuss the Commander adjourned the meeting at 12:25 pm.

Minutes of Member Meeting
Col. William E. Weber Chapter 142, KWVA
August 9, 2017

Commander Mount called the meeting to order at 2:30 pm.

Chaplain Rinehart offered the opening prayer and the members pledged allegiance to the flag.

Minutes of the July 12, 2017 meeting were read by Secretary Wienhoff and were approved by motion of Malavenda, second by Col. Weber.

The Treasurer’s report was presented by Treasurer Eader consisting of the Balance Sheet and Income and Expense for July 2017. After review, the report was approved by motion of Col. Weber, second by Fox.

Welfare Chairman Reinhart was asked to send a card to Jack Droneburg and Ken Davis. Commander Mount stated that if anyone knows of someone who should receive a card, call Gene.

Commander Mount reported on the following matters:

  • On July 27th there was a Wreath Laying Event at the Frederick Monument at 10 am. The Proclamation by President Trump was read and the wreath was laid by VC Becker and Wendell Murphy.
  • On July 28 Legion Post 11 had a Korean War Veterans recognition day luncheon. VC Becker gave a rundown of membership recruitment efforts and reported on the event.
  • The Rocky Ridge Parade is on Wednesday, August 16th at 7 pm. Priscilla will host a dinner at 5pm. Fred, Reggie, Glenn and Wendell’s truck will be available. Registration for our space was requested at the end of Richard’s driveway.
  • The Chapter 142 Picnic will be held indoors this year at Dutch’s Daughter Restaurant on September 16 at noon. Details and a reservation form are in the July - September Newsletter. Picnic fare will be served. Cost is $15 per person. Yumi Hogan has been invited to speak and the new assistant to General Pyo, Commander Jung Wookjin, has been invited. Thirty six members and guests have signed up so far.
  • October 4 - 8 is the dates of the National Convention are being held in Norfolk, Virginia. Look in Graybeards or the National website for full details.
  • The Brunswick Parade will be held on November 5, 2017.
  • On Nov. 11 there will be a Ceremony in the Amphitheater at the Tomb of Unknown at Arlington Cemetery and a reception following at Women in Military History Museum and subsequent wreath laying at our DC Memorial. Bus will be provided. KWVA is the host organization this year. Space has been requested for Mount, Wienhoff, Eader, Becker and wife, Chipley, Murphy, Malavenda, Cody, Kephart, Fox and wife and Miller.

Old Business:

  • Commander Mount presented a check for $1,500 to Col. Weber for the Wall of Remembrance.

New Business:

  • Commander Mount reported on Executive Director Jim Fisher’s report which indicated National KWVA membership is down 505 year to date for a total of 12,809. The report also noted there is some confusion over what VA benefits are available and suggested you call local eligibility section at 217-884-6424 or visit www.benefits.va.gov if you have any questions.
  • Col. Weber presented a method of possible fundraising to pay for the Wall of Remembrance and some techniques to recruit more Chapter members.

Col. Weber won the 50/50 and donated his share back to the chapter

The meeting was adjourned at 3:50 pm with a salute to the flag.
