Minutes of Executive Committee Meeting
Col. William E. Weber Chapter 142, KWVA
April 4, 2017

In Attendance: Commander Mount, Vice Commander Becker, Secretary Wienhoff, Treasurer Eader, Chipley, Rinehart, Fox, Malavenda, Knoebel and Kephart
Unable to Attend: Cody

Commander Mount called the meeting to order at 11:40 am.

Minutes of the March 7, 2017 meeting were presented by Secretary Wienhoff and were approved on a motion by Fox, second by Knoebel.

The Treasurer’s Report consisting of the Balance Sheet for March 31, 2017 and Income and Expense Report for March 2017 and the First Quarter of 2017 compared to Budget was presented. After review, the report was approved on a motion of Knoebel, second by Becker.

Commander Mount reviewed the following items:

A representative from the Vet Center in Martinsburg, WV will be a guest speaker at our April 12, 2017 meeting.

Around 10 members of Chapter 142 will attend a joint Chapter 313, 312 and 142 meeting at the Winchester, VA on April 11, 2017. Meet and carpool from AMVETS parking lot at 10:30 am.

The Frozen Chosin Monument Dedication will take place on May 4th at Quantico. Bus transportation will leave from Urbana Park and Ride at 10:30 am.

The Woodsboro Parade will be held on May 28, 2017. Be at meeting area in Woodsboro at 12:30 pm.

Bus transportation will be provided to participate in the Washington Memorial Day Parade and subsequent event at KWVA Memorial on May 29, 2017.

On June 23rd there will be a National Korean Veterans Ceremony at 9 am at the Monument in Washington.

Our Color Guard presentation for the opening ceremony of the Golden Gears Car Club is scheduled for 9:00 am June 24th at Keys Stadium parking lot. The Club has named our chapter to sponsor for the car show.

On July 26 there will be a Twilight Tattoo at Fort Myers and the wreath laying ceremony at the Korean War Washington Monument the morning of July 27th.

The KWVA will be the honored unit at the Veterans Day Ceremony at Arlington Cemetery on November 11, 2017. There will be 180 seats at the Amphitheatre reserved for Korean War Veterans and there will be a reception at the Women in Military Museum after the Ceremony.

Wienhoff suggested that the Chapter sponsor a Trophy to be awarded to a military vehicle at the Home Run Car Show at a cost of $25. Motion was made by Kephart, seconded by Fox to sponsor the Trophy. Motion Approved.

He also asked the consideration be given to sponsoring flags for the Field of Honor Event on Memorial Day. Consideration will be given to sponsoring the two flags from last year which are in the possession of Eader and Malavenda for a total of $40. Flags will be brought in to determine their condition.

Minutes of Member Meeting
Col. William E. Weber Chapter 142, KWVA
April 12, 2017

Commander Mount called the meeting to order at 2:35 pm.

Chaplain Rinehart offered the opening prayer and the members pledged allegiance to the flag.

Commander Mount suspended the regular order of business for a presentation by Greg Edens; Veterans outreach Program Specialist from the Vet Center at Martinsburg, WV. Greg explained the services available from the Vet Center which focuses on counseling services to war zone veterans from all eras. It was very interesting to the Chapter membership. Informative handouts and contact information were provided.

Minutes of the March 8, 2017 meeting were read by Secretary Wienhoff and were approved by motion of Fox, second by Chipley.

The Treasurer’s report was presented by Treasurer Eader consisting of the Balance Sheet and Income and Expense for March 2017 and the results for the First Quarter 2017. The report was approved by motion of Reinhart, second by Becker.

Welfare Chairman Reinhart reported no activity the past month.

Commander Mount reported on the following matters:

  • Annelie informed Commander that Col. Weber is in hospital being fitted with a new prosthesis for his leg.
  • Joint meeting with Chapters 312 and 313 at Winchester was an enjoyable event. Ten members from our Chapter attended. Jim Fisher, Executive Director of National KWVA was guest speaker.

Upcoming Events:

  • May 4 - There will be a bus trip to Frozen Chosin Memorial Dedication at Quantico, VA. Leave Urbana Park & Ride at 10am.
  • May 28 - Woodsboro Memorial Day Parade will be held. Meet at entrance to cemetery at 12:30pm. Four convertibles and Murphy’s truck will be available.
  • May 29 - National Memorial Day Parade will be in Washington, DC. Bus from Urbana Park and Ride, time not yet determined. It will be a long day with parade and wreath laying at DC Korean War Memorial.
  • June 23 - Ceremony will be conducted at Korean War Veterans Memorial by Korean Embassy. Bus will probably be available. Departure time is unknown at this time.
  • June 24 - Chapter 142 Color Guard to present Colors for Golden Gears Car Club opening ceremony for car show at Harry Grove Stadium. Time is tentatively 9am.
  • July 26 - There will be an Army Twilight Tattoo saluting Korean War Veterans at Whipple Field at Ft. Myers at 6:30 pm with a reception at the Ft. Myers Officers club prior to the event at 5pm.
  • July 27 - Wreath Laying Ceremony at DC Memorial at 10am. Bus departure time is to be determined.
  • Nov. 11 - Ceremony at Amphitheater at Tomb of Unknown at Arlington Cemetery and a reception will follow at Women in Military History Museum and wreath laying at DC Memorial. Bus will be provided. KWVA is the host organization this year.

Motion by Executive Committee to repost the two flags from last year at this year’s Field of Honor for $40 is presented for approval. Motion affirmed by the members present.

New Business:

  • Eader reported that relay 711 phone assistance for those hard of hearing and/or with poor eyesight is available. A representative is available to speak at a meeting and would like an indication from members if there was a general interest. Consensus was to invite representative as guest speaker.
  • He also asked if the members would be in favor of having joint meetings with Chapters 312 and 313 each year considering the success of the April 11 meeting at Chapter 313. Member indicated it was worth exploring.
  • Chipley mentioned that Jim Fisher commented that Col. Weber had relinquished his position as Executive Director of the Korean War Veterans Foundation and has been Designated Executive Director Emeritus.
  • Wienhoff reported that the Golden Gears Home Run Car Show is being held on June 24, 2017 at Harry Grove Stadium. Our Chapter will again be a sponsored Veterans Organization at the show. He reminded chapter members to be available for a Color Guard for the opening ceremony which will probably be at 9am as in previous years.

Commander Mount won the 50/50.

A motion to adjourn the meeting was made by Chipley, seconded by Becker and the meeting was adjourned at 3:50 pm with a salute to the flag.
